If you’re at all like me and like your history with a bit of quirkiness, you might want to check out the ancient stone bathtub of Bomunsa Temple (보문사). The ancient stone bathtub of Bomunsa is… well, a big stone bathtub… um, in the middle of a rice field… um, yeah.
Okay, so it’s not the Great Wall, but I’m the kind of person who’d take a photo of a rock pile if you told me it was something old (it’s been known to happen). Besides it’s got a great view West over the rice fields towards Nangsan (낭산) and Namsan (남산) mountains. If there’re no farmers around, you can jump the 2 foot high little fence for a closer look. Just don’t tell anyone I mentioned it.
The Bomun temple (보문사) ruins are part of a short, 2 hour cycling route I like to do every so often; going East out of town, past Bunghwangsa temple (분황사), around past King Jin Pyeong’s tomb and through the little village of Bomun-dong (NOT Bomun resort). Hope to get a post up here soon with more detail on that.
