A Night of Traditional Music at Dongguk

Traditional Music Concert at Dongguk Next Tuesday

Traditional Music Concert at Dongguk Next Tuesday

There’s usually a lot of concerts going on at Dongguk University , but this next Tuesday night is a particular performance that I’d like to give a special plug here.  It’s being organized and produced by Dongyoon Hwan, who’s a music major that I’ve learned to know at Dongguk’s International Lounge this semester.  He’s just gotten back from a year and a half in London where he was a professional musician and also did a fair bit of busking.  Since being back in Korea he’s had a vision to share Korean traditional music with the foreign community here in Gyeongju, so he’s organized this concert on his own initiative and by his own funding, which I think is pretty cool.

The concert is a one off event titled “The Bridge” which will be divided into two sets hosting about 25 musicians.  The first half will showcase a variety of traditional Korean music and dance styles while the second will be a more contemporary fusion.  It should be fun, so come out the 4th floor auditorium of the Wonhyo Gwon (원효관) Building at Dongguk University this next Tuesday, Nov. 23rd at 7:00 pm to catch the action (admission’s free).  To get there from Seonggeong-dong, take the Dongdae-gyo Bridge across the river and go past the the Dongguk Hospital.  Then go through the front gates of the University and take your first left at the taxi stand.  Wonhyo Gwon is the first big building up the little hill, on your right (marked with the dark blue pin on the map below).  Take the elevator to the 4th floor and follow the the hallway around a few turns to your right and you’re there.  Hope to see you there.
